We took "the Jane" to Draper Days yesterday to have the choice experience of carnival atmosphere and fireworks. She dropped rubber snakes through a hole to win her own snake, and spent most of her time at the duck pond, fishing them out with a net. I admit, I broke down and bought her a dictators' wand with sparkly ribbon. She loved it.
One "horse-lip" (hot dog) and 2 popsicles later, she was jazzed up enough to last through the rest of the evening, getting her second wind around 9:30. She and her cousins jumped on the trampoline, chased chickens, and worked their way into every volleyball and horseshoes game while we adults drank our diet Coke and admired my brother-in-law's new ankle tattoo. It wraps all the way around and shows the Wasatch 100-- its the profile of his 100 mile race. He was still pretty sore that night from his 30-something mile race that he had run that day-- and won. Never mind that he was running on a tattoo so new that its still covered in plastic wrap. I have the coolest family ever.
The fireworks were a hit-- I thought Jane would freak out but she "ooohed" and "aaaahhhed" along with the rest of us.
